Cori Dioquino in She’s in the Details
November 17th, 2010 by Fil-Am Ako http://www.filamako.com
Cori Dioquino is an up-and-coming actress who recently finished shooting her first feature film called She’s in the Details. The film is set to reset the status quo for films that ‘empower’ women as it boasts four complex female leads that are not defined or narratively motivated by their romantic entanglements. The film’s story successfully gives these archetypes center stage and bases their conflicts not on their vices, but on the human drama that exists within all of us.
The idea of the so-called ‘chick flick’ is about to change. But the production team needs your help to accomplish their goal of making the film a successful one. The average festival submission fee is at least $100 per submission and with a goal of $3,000 that they are raising for line up opportunities. Help support She’s in the Details by helping fund the film at INDIE GOGO. Producers of the film are also planning to submit She’s in the Details to Asian-American festivals. Why? Because three out of the four leading ladies in the film are Asian-American (Gloria Makino is Jewish-Japanese; Tanu Evans is an African-East Indian-American singer, songwriter and actress; and Cori Dioquino is Filipina-American).
Cori was born in Pasay City, Philippines and immigrated to Laurel, Maryland at the age of four. She earned her Bachelors in Theater from Towson University with a focus on performance. Some of her most memorable acting experiences include: Connie from A Chorus Line, Eat the Runt (Audrey Herman’s Spotlighter’s Theater), Andromache in Troy Women, and an original work entitled Postmarks, where she portrayed the leading character, Sabine (the piece was based on the illustrated book trilogy, Griffin and Sabine). (Hagerstown, MD) – A new movie is being filmed in Washington County, Maryland. "She’s In The Details" is an Independent Film, and has already wrapped up more than a week of filming in Hagerstown. Another few days are on the shooting schedule, according to Tom Riford, President and CEO of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB).
"We always welcome film and television projects to Washington County. Maryland and Washington County are very film-friendly," said Riford. "This is a relatively small project, but it filled up several hotel rooms for more than a week. The film’s actors and crews stayed at The Plaza Hotel (now a Ramada Hotel). Filming happened in and around the hotel for more than a week. There will be another few days of filming shot in Washington County during a road scene later this month." Riford said film and television projects create positive local economic impact.
Robert Hagans of Maryland is the producer and director of the film, which features over a dozen actors, and an almost equal number of crew. "She's in the Details" is the debut film for Snagah Studios that features eclectic characters in an engaging screenplay that has been more than seven years in the making. The premise of the film starts with the plans surrounding the wedding of a mutual friend, and four young women having to confront each other on emotional and physical terms.
According to Robert Hagans, "It’s been great filming in Hagerstown and Washington County. We have a road sequence yet to film, using a sophisticated car-trailer-camera set up. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department has been a great help. Everyone we’ve worked with in Washington County has been welcoming and helpful." Hagans said he looked forward to showing a premiere in Hagerstown.
The film has also had some of its shooting schedule in Frederick County and other locations in Maryland. According to the abstract of the script, from the film’s web site: A series of events, incited by circumstances involving the wedding of a mutual friend, forces four young women to confront each other on emotional (and physical) terms. The world of "She's in the Details" is inhabited by characters of an alternative persuasion: slackers, artists, and pleasure seekers; each with their own agendas, hopes and dreams. The goal of this piece was to give these archetypes center stage and base their conflicts not on their vices, but on the human drama that exists within all of us.
Actors came from several states, including New York and the DC/Virginia/Maryland area.
The Independent film will be submitted to several film festivals, including the Maryland Film Festival, the Sundance Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Edinburgh Film Festival, and South by Southwest Film Festival. Editing is expected to wrap up this fall.
The producers worked closely with the Maryland Film Office and the Hagerstown-Washington County CVB.
